About Our Parish

Humble Beginnings

St. Thomas More Collegiate Parish established in 1990.  It was as a collegiate parish near the East Campus of Del Mar College to minister to the spiritual needs of the students and faculty.  The church building once served as a Presbyterian church and a funeral home before being renovated for use as a church and also a rectory.  It was also hoped that this new parish would encourage more students to consider a vocation to the priesthood or religious life by giving them their own place to worship and feel part of a parish community.

Growing Through Change

The welcoming atmosphere of the small parish drew in many from the area and in 1988 with permission from the Diocese and it's governing bodies St. Thomas More Collegiate Parish was elevated to St. Thomas More Parish. While many from Del Mar are involved in the life of the parish, it includes a variety of traditional parish ministries, including a strong Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program.
